November 23, 2019. In February, Total made one of the most important discoveries in the Brulpadda field offshore South Africa. Located on Block 11B/12B in the Outeniqua Basin, the French oil giant – which made a gas and condensate and oil discovery – predicts that the potential for the discovery of the net gas could hold 1.5 to 3 billion barrels. Total plans to obtain 3D data of the area, which will help the company decide how many more exploration wells to drill. The finding of significant quantities of gas condensate on the Brulpadda, Total’s offshore discovery, prospects, located on Block 11B/12B in the Outeniqua Basin, 175 kilometres off the southern coast of South Africa. The find has ramifications for the energy sector and especially the gas economy in South Africa and has everyone including our president talking, but what does the find actually mean and how will it impact our industry. Brulpadda is the first oil and gas in South Africa’s Outeniqua Basin.

Impact Oil and Gas Limited is pleased to note today’s announcement from Total S.A of a significant gas condensate discovery in the Brulpadda-1AX re-entry well on Block 11B/12B, located 175 km offshore the southern coast of South Africa. The Brulpadda well encountered 57 meters of net gas condensate pay in Lower Cretaceous reservoirs.

Deepsea Stavanger drilled the basin-opening Brulpadda oil and gas discovery on Block 11B/12B in February 2019. Block 11B/12B is located in the Outeniqua Basin 175 kilometers off the southern coast of South Africa.

Brulpadda oil

Total started drilling the Brulpadda-1AX re-entry well in late December 2018, using the Deepsea Stavanger drilling rig. The potential development of Brulpadda and Luiperd is uncertain, but gas production could be sufficient to supply over half of the country’s current demand with first gas is unlikely before 2025. Along with the currently planned and announced projects, South Africa could become the majority supplier of its own gas demand for the first time in decades.
